WHILE fine acting has often been available on our TV screens it’s usually dramas rather than soaps showing these examples.
But the death of Kylie Platt in Coronation Street has, however, prompted consistently excellent performances from Jack P Shepherd who plays David Platt. The scene where Kylie lay bleeding and dying in the street was truly emotional, and having to tell their young children the news heart-rending.
Since then, he has displayed that typical blend of emotions surrounding any death: shock, anger and total incomprehension.
Jack has taken the role of David through some compelling, rollercoaster storylines. And for much of the last 16 years in the role has been a troubled lad. Sometimes, he’s been downright evil.
But the mixture of bad elements in his character and the basically decent are now all on view. Expect more high-calibre acting from him in the weeks to come.
It’s good to see that this still young actor has grown up so spectacularly, and grown into a complex role that mirrors life.
