FURTHER to my letter regarding the condition of the Leverhulme Park bowling green in Breightmet, Letters April 15, I also emailed a copy to Cllr Mr Byrne but have not received any acknowledgement.
Bowling in its many guises has been part of British culture since the times of Sir Francis Drake; he enjoyed a game of bowls before sailing out to sink the Spanish Armada. Can Cllr Mr Byrne show us the youth programme to create the bowlers of tomorrow, none of the bowlers at the Breightmet bowling green know of any such programme.
Many of the bowlers in Bolton are elderly and the exercise they get on the bowling greens in the summer helps to keep them out of doctors' surgeries in the winter. Is it Bolton Council's intention to destroy Bolton’s bowling greens and deprive the elderly of much needed exercise and pleasure?
Should councillors wish to inspect the Breightmet bowling green to see the damage caused by their lack of care, they can contact me, or the committee, at any time and it will be arranged.
