I feel I must respond to David Sharples’ letter of doom and gloom. Instead of whingeing, the pessimists should look at the positives.

For a start the Scottish fishermen voted in favour of leaving the EU; the industry will now thrive. Let's be positive about this and be thankful.

British farming has just received a boost from USA because we will be able to export red meat - the first time in 20 years.

A pharmaceutical giant has just announced it is to invest £275 million in the UK — prior to the vote this investment was in doubt.

London City Airport has announced major developments of some £350 million.

Against all expectations the economy has grown by 0.6% in the last quarter. Can we stop talking this nation down?

Mr Sharples complains about the dangers to British farming and not wanting to lose any more farmers — does he know anything about what's happening in this country?

We are losing farmers tragically due to unrealistic prices for milk. Yes, you want cheap food but farmers must be paid.

The British government can more than make up any subsidies which they will not get after we leave the European Union that is a political union not an economic union.

The French are going to announce that they will go ahead with the atomic energy reactor with an investment of some £30 billion — energy that we desperately need if we want our lights to work when switched on.

Britain is starved of energy. We do not realise the danger we are in.

The Chancellor is already negotiating with China who has a lot more money to invest than the rest of the world put together.

No one has even suggested that immigrant workers coming for seasonal work will be barred.

Stop all this whingeing and look to the positives. This country has more to fear from people like you who talk this nation down than from any foreign laws and because overseas our investors will see the potential of Great Britain!
