MY first venture into Prestons was in 1962, as my mother was buying me a watch for my 21st birthday.

We settled on a lovely little Tissot which sadly no longer works but I still have.

I wore it constantly for more than 50 years.

Fifty one years ago, my engagement ring was purchased from Prestons, then a year later our wedding rings.

Mine had a delicate scroll pattern, now completely worn off, Mt husband's wore very thin and finally broke due to his work at the time.

We replaced it, again from Prestons, with a studier one.

When we bought the wedding rings, Prestons presented us with a set of six teaspoons — a nice gesture.

My original engagement ring disappeared after about 10 years, so was replaced, at Prestons.

As we had more money, it was exchanged for bigger ones until I had one similar to the original, which I have now.

Such a shame that the last prestigious shop in Bolton has had to close.
