Beer connoisseur and passionate pub campaigner, Mark gives us his decision on the tastiest beer he has sampled in the last seven days.
This week’s beer highlight comes courtesy of a popular and long established East Lancashire brewer, Rossendale Brewery, based beneath The Griffin Inn public house in Haslingden.
The Rossendale Valley brewer make an impressive range of traditional cask ales, that has deservedly earned them a fine reputation amongst discerning ale drinkers, both locally and beyond.
Their strong, Golden Bitter style ale, Sunshine, is most certainly a beverage to brighten your day. It presents itself as golden-yellow in colour, with a tight, white head.
The beer has a quite zesty, hoppy aroma of lemons, in addition to some bready malt, plus a hint of peppery spice.
More juicy citrus flavours fill the mouth. They balanced perfectly with bready malt, floral and soft, peppery notes that were also identified.
The finish was dry and bitter, with some lingering, tangy hops, subtle spice and a hint of bready malt.
An exceptional example of a premium strength Golden Bitter style ale. Thirst-quenching excellence. In first-class condition and thoroughly enjoyed at The Griffin Inn, Haslingden.
