ONE Ironman celebrated completing the gruelling endurance race in style — by proposing to his girlfriend on the finish line.

Nathan Marlor popped the question to his girlfriend of seven years, Kate Moorcroft, on the red carpet in front of cheering supporters in Victoria Square.

Thankfully, she responded with a resounding “yes”.

The 24-year old from Westhoughton was doing his first triathlon and finished in an impressive 11 hours and 48 minutes.

He said: “I could have shaved a couple of minutes off that time if I hadn’t stopped and got down on one knee, but I think it was worth it.

“I was really chuffed with my time, especially as it was my first ever triathlon — I came up with the idea of proposing a while back and had been planning it for months.

“I had plenty of time to think about what I was going to say to Kate as I made my way around the course, and I was delighted when she said yes.”

The couple, who live in Shevington in Wigan, are setting off for a celebratory trip to Paris.

Mr Marlor added: “I would definitely like to do another Ironman but will have to run it past Kate — I don’t know what I would do to top this gesture at the end, though. I may have to present her with new car keys.”
