BOLTON’S multi-million pound University Technical College will hold its first open day on Wednesday.

Prospective students and their parents will have a chance to find out more about Bolton’s newest school — which is due to open next September and specialise in health sciences and engineering technologies.

They will have a chance to see the modern building take shape, meet the teachers and see the university facilities which students will be able to use.

The open day will give visitors a chance to take part in sessions in the Clinical Simulation Suite, in Bolton One.

They will be able to get to grips with “model” patients whose symptoms are controlled by computer allowing students to tackle the kind of challenges found in health practice without risk to the patient.

The Centre for Advanced Performance Engineering (CAPE), home to RLR Msport will also be open.

Dr Zubair Hanslot, Provost of the University of Bolton and Project Director for UTC Bolton said: “At UTC Bolton we will combine traditional academic learning, designed by the university, with practical projects provided by local employers.

“Having the university at the heart of the UTC means that we can take advantage of the university’s experts and specialist facilities to offer students a unique opportunity to develop their expertise in health sciences and engineering technologies.” UTC Bolton will be for 14 to 19-year-olds and aims to bridge the gap between academic qualifications and vocational experience.

The open evening will take place from 5pm until 8pm at University of Bolton’s Senate House on Derby Street.

Further open days will take place on Saturday, November 22, from 10am and Wednesday, December 10 from 5pm.
