YOUNG eco-warriors went green for the day.
Nursery and reception children at St George's CE School in Westhoughton dug deep to plant their bulbs, shrubs and sees into the school garden.
And despite the weather, the children were eager to get outdoors to learn about fun in the garden.
Parents came along too to show their support and get stuck in.
Nursery teacher Hilary Cregan said: "The purpose of the day was to develop a fun, stimulating and safe learning area outdoors for the nursery and reception children to show pride and awareness in their environment.
"We also wanted to involve our parents as a community project."
Annie Oakley, aged three, said: "I love planting! We need trowel and watering can."
Harry Fishburn, aged four, said: " We could see what the weather is like and if it is rainy we can plant out!"
And Erza Maryon, also four is hoping to plant her own beanstalk.
She said: "I want to go up to the sky like Jack!"
