COMMUTERS are facing with rush-hour chaos after a two-car smash just south of Abbey Village.
Police said a Citroen Picasso smashed into a Hyundai i20 car near the junction of Bolton Road and Dole Lane, leaving at least two people with “serious injuries.”
The male driver of the Hyundai, believed to be from the Bolton area and in his 40s, was badly injured in the crash with several broken bones and was taken to Preston Royal Hospital.
The crash caused severe damage to the Citroen and it is thought that both drivers were taken to hospital, it is not yet confirmed how many people were injured in the crash.
A spokesman for Lancashire Police said the injuries, although serious, were not thought to be life threatening.
The road was blocked in both directions and police were forced to direct vehicles away from the scene.
Council contractors were called in order to move the wreckage from the site so that the road could re-open.
Motorists took to Twitter to warn others to avoid the area.
Eloise Jane Edwards tweeted a picture of the smash and wrote: "Just happened on the A674 to Bolton, so there will be long delays — try to avoid.”
