BIG-hearted young people finished the school term by thinking of others during this season of goodwill

Pupils and students at Kearsley Academy swapped their uniform for their own clothes – and instead of donating money children brought in items for hampers which could be donated to the local foodbank and for hampers to be distributed in the community.

Dawn Schofield, citizenship co-ordinator at the school, said: "I am so proud of every single person involved in todays action.

"Every year 11 pupil has worked endlessly to ensure that no one in our local community would go without this Christmas period.

"Our pupils were shocked to learn that 34 per cent of our community live below poverty line, this inspired them to try and make a change.

"We raised over 700 items of food, essential items and toys for our local community.

"That is a huge achievement and one that should make every pupil feel good about themselves.

"A huge thank you to all parents, pupils and staff for their contributions."

Their local MP Yasmin Qureshi also visited the school to see how the children's campaign was going on the day.
