A MAN who repeatedly breached a restraining order banning him from contacting his ex-partner has been jailed for 10 months.

At Bolton Crown Court Neil Nehra, prosecuting, told how Lesley Marshall had ended her relationship with Rae Laing in August last year.

She was granted a non-molestation order by a civil court and then a restraining order was imposed after Laing appeared in court for harassing her.

But Recorder Stuart Driver QC was told that 31-year-old Laing repeatedly ignored the court orders and was given community punishments.

On January 5 he went to Harvest Park, Bolton, where Miss Marshall was visiting her friend Zoe Whatmore.

Mr Nehra said Miss Marshall slammed the door when she realised he was there but he knocked again, telling Miss Whatmore that if he could not see her he would make her car, which was parked outside, "disappear."

The court heard he had previously threatened to leave their young son an orphan and told her he would kill the family dog.

Kimberley Morton, defending, said Laing had never been violent, had found it difficult to come to terms with the end of the relationship and been prescribed anti-depressants.

She added the situation was further complicated because Laing's father was in a relationship with Miss Marshall's mother.

Laing, of Mallett Crescent, Johnson Fold, pleaded guilty to two counts of breaching restraining orders, one count of breaching a non-molestation order and a further charge of threatening to commit criminal damage.

Recorder Driver jailed him for 10 months.

Laing shook his head as he was told Miss Marshall had suffered "significant psychological damage" at his hands.

"You show absolutely no remorse and your opinions are entrenched and immoveable," Recorder Driver told him.

He also made a restraining order banning Laing from contacting his victim indefinitely.
