POLICE have issued an e-fit of a man they believe sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl in Breightmet.

The teenager was attacked in a grassed area off Long Lane, Leverhulme Park, last Wednesday (January 21) at about 8pm.

She had left a local gym and was walking along a footpath in the park when she noticed a man walking behind her.

The schoolgirl started to walk faster to get away from him but he too sped up. The man ran past her and grabbed her, before sexually assaulting her.

She screamed and kicked out at her attacker, causing him to lose his grip on her, before running off and telling her dad what had happened.

Police are appealing to anyone with information to come forward, and have issued an evofit of the man responsible for the attack.

Det Insp Charlotte Cadden said: "It is now been a week since this young girl was attacked and we are continuing to do everything in our power to establish this man's identity and arrest him.

"We are now in a position to issue an evofit which is a good likeness of the offender so I would urge people to look carefully at the image.

"If you recognise this man or see someone matching his picture hanging around your community please call us as soon as possible.

"I also want to reiterate that this is an isolated incident and we are not dealing with any sort of spate of this type of crime.

"We do not want people to be unduly fearful, but it is right we should warn our community what has happened so that people, particularly young girls, can take precautions and be on their guard.

"If anyone does have information, whether it be about the incident itself or the whereabouts or identity of the offender, then please call us."

The offender is described as a white man, of a slim build and between 20 and 25 years old.

He spoke with a Bolton accent and was wearing a black waterproof, waist-length coat zipped up to the chest and grey tracksuit bottoms. He may also have been wearing gloves.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
