UNVEILING a brand new look in aid of poorly children was all in a day's fun for a thoughtful eight-year-old.

Julia Bannister, from Radcliffe, decided to give her long, curly hair the chop so she could donate between eight and nine inches of hair to the Little Princess Trust

The national charity donates real-hair wigs free of charge to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

Last week, Julia went under the scissors at Zig Zag salon in Brandlesholme Road, Bury, and after having her locks styled into a long bob ended up donating 10 inches of hair to the cause.

The youngster, who attends St Peter’s Church of England Primary School in Bury, said: “I love my new hair!

“It feels lovely knowing another boy or girl will benefit from my hair donation, and I will definitely be doing it again in the future if I am able to.

“I did not feel nervous, just excited to help.”

Julia had previously raised money for Comic Relief and Children in Need, as well as donating her own clothes and toys to charity, but had never donated her hair before.

Her parents Maria and Gary, and four-year-old brother Max, are “incredibly proud” of her “brave and selfless” decision.

Mrs Bannister, an admin assistant, said: “I am so happy Julia’s kind donation has raised more awareness for this lovely children.

“With the help of donations like Julia’s, Little Princess Trust is able to make poorly children happy by being able to look in the mirror and ‘just look normal’.

“Julia looks gorgeous with her new hairstyle, and we are very proud of her for having it done.”
