NOT a single group in Radcliffe has applied for a share of £7,000 to fund health and wellbeing projects in the town.

The £20,000 Our Place initiative is giving organisations a cash boost of up to £1,500 for activities which improve residents’ health and wellbeing.

The deadline for applications is next Friday (March 6), but at the Radcliffe Township Forum on Tuesday it was revealed no groups yet applied for a share of the funds.

When Radcliffe first became an Our Place area last April, it was awarded £3,000, which was boosted by a further £17,000 after proposals were submitted in June.

It was hoped the town would receive another £20,000 of funding for 2015, but the Government has now said this will no longer be the case.

This means that Radcliffe’s Our Place funding will cease on March 31, and any unspent money will be returned to the Department for Communities and Local Government.

Ten per cent of the grant is being held back by the department until council officials submit a final plan, which they cannot do until they receive grant applications.

If groups apply for the grants, a consultation event where the public can decide on how the money is spent will be held at Radcliffe Civic Suite on March 19 at 7pm.

Applicants must be able to attend the meeting on March 19 and speak about their project for up to three minutes.

Groups do not have to be constituted to apply, but must have an independent bank account and will have six months to carry out the project once funding is allocated.
