A CARER sexually assaulted a vulnerable woman in her own home then made her tea as if nothing had happened, a court heard.

Now Darren Gresty has been jailed for 12 months after he admitted sexual activity with a person with a mental disorder at Manchester Crown Court.

The 54-year-old, of Mason Street, Horwich, was employed as her carer and visited her to prepare meals.

The court heard that in May of last year he sexually assaulted the woman, who was in her 50s, at her Salford home.

PC Lyndsey Roberts, from the Greater manchester Police's adult safeguarding unit, said: “Not only does the victim not have the capacity to consent to sexual activity, she does not understand what it is, and therefore did not understand what Darren Gresty was doing to her or why.

“He took advantage of this woman in the most appalling way, in full knowledge of her vulnerability and that makes these offences all the more appalling.

“What is also galling is that he then, quite incredulously, went about his normal duties, making her tea, as if nothing had happened.

“The only saving grace is that he has faced up to what he has done."

Gresty was also given a sexual offences prevention order and made to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years.
