A KIND-HEARTED 11-year-old who has raised thousands for animal charities is gearing up for her biggest event yet.

Scarlett Berry, from Westhoughton, will host her third annual Barking Berry’s Charity Fun Dog Show in Central Park on June 6 between 11am and 4pm.

The show, which will raise cash for Homeless Hounds and Dogs Trust Merseyside, will feature 15 classes.

These are best child handler, cutest pup 12 months and under, glossiest coat, prettiest bitch, waggiest tail, most handsome dog, best smile, best senior seven years and over, best ears, best ex-pound dog, barkiest dog, best rescue, dog most like its owner, best fancy dress and best in show.

Scarlett, who is a pupil at Bury Grammar Girls, said: “We did really well last year despite terrible weather.

“This year we are hoping for sunshine and an even better turn out.

“We want to raise lots of money for all of the rescues coming along but probably the most important thing is to let people know that you do not need to go to a breeder to buy a dog because there are so many lovely dogs in rescues all over the country waiting for their forever homes.”

On the day there will be 57 stalls – around 20 of them animal rescue charities – food stands and fun activities for families and pets alike.

The show will be judged by veterinary nurse Gemma Yates from Darley House Veterinary Centre in Farnworth.

Classes cost £1 each to enter, with judging beginning at 11.30am, and there is no need to pre-register.
