TWO police officers and a young woman were taken to hospital after a police van overturned in a collision with another car.

The smash occurred in Tonge Moor, at the junction of Crompton Way and Tonge Moor Road, at approximately 10.45pm last night.

A police van, which had been responding to an emergency call-out, was travelling along Crompton Way and went through the junction of Tonge Moor Road with its flashing lights on.

As it drove through the junction it collided with a black Renault Clio.

The two police officers who were in the van and the 22-year-old woman who had been driving the Clio were taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital with minor injuries, and have since been discharged.

There was extensive damage to the Vauxhall Vivaro police van, which flipped onto its roof, and the front end of the Clio was also badly damaged.

Crompton Way was closed between The Castle pub and Astley Bridge Police Station while police carried out their investigations.

A police spokesman said the incident is now being investigated and asked for anyone who witnessed the crash to call GMP’s Serious Collisions Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741 or 856 4742.
