A CAR crashed into a lamppost in Halliwell in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Residents heard a loud bang in Halliwell Road at about 12.50am, and woke to discover a silver Toyota had smashed into a lamppost opposite Bolton Cashco store.
Onlookers said it looked like two cars were having a race and said the crash resulted from one of the vehicles trying to do a u-turn.
Residents said they then saw a group of young men using a rope to pull the car back out of the lamppost.
One resident, who did not want to be named, said: “We heard a big bang and saw a car had hit a wall and a lamppost opposite Bolton Cashco."
