A MOTORCYCLIST was left with serious injuries after colliding with a telegraph pole in Belmont this morning.

The 31-year-old Walton-le-Dale resident was travelling south on the A675 Belmont Road towards Bolton when the collision occurred at around 7.45 on Friday, October 2.

A police spokesman said: “While negotiating a bend, it is thought that the man has somehow collided head on with a telegraph pole.”

The motorcyclist came to rest in a nearby field and the pole is understood to have blocked the road for a short time.

The man sustained multiple fractures, internal injuries and a punctured lung.

Roads policing officer, sgt John Jennings-Wharton, said: “This happened in quite a rural location but I am asking people who may have seen something to get in touch.

“The man’s motorbike was a black Kawazaki ZX636 so if anyone saw this vehicle being ridden in area around the time of the collision, or indeed anyone saw the pole in the road or moved it, please give us a call.”
