A CHARITY night raised more than £1,700 for a unit which supports cancer patients at the Royal Bolton Hospital.

David and Maria Lee organised the 50s, 60s and 70s themed evening at St Osmund's parish hall in Breightmet, which was in aid of the hospital's Churchill unit.

The night included a charity auction with lots including a signed ball from Bolton Wanderers, and music from performer Yvonne Neary.

Mr Lee said they decided to raise money for the unit after his wife received chemotherapy there after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Mrs Lee, aged 54, is continuing to undergo check-ups but her condition is improving and the pair wanted to say thank you for the care received.

Mr Lee, of Tetbury Drive, Breightmet, said: "A lot of people don't know about the Churchill unit but it does great work in helping women fight cancer.

"Maria received some great care and we thought it was right to raise some money and put something back."
