HEAVY rain is set to be joined by strong winds as severe weather continues to batter Bolton.

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for strong winds for tomorrow, with gusts expected to reach speeds of 60mph.

Downpours are forecast for most of tomorrow, with temperatures forecast to reach a high of 10°C with a low of 4°C.

The weather could cause disruption, and today the newly opened ice rink in Victoria Square had to be closed early because of the heavy rain.

The strong winds and wet weather are expected to continue into Monday.

Residents are being advised to be prepared for the severe conditions.

The Met Office said: “A blustery weekend is expected across much of the UK but particularly on Sunday across Northern Ireland, Wales, England and parts of southern Scotland, where severe gales are expected to affect some areas.

“Inland gusts of 50 to 60 mph could occur, perhaps most likely across western areas together with parts of northern England.”

“Please be aware of the potential for disruption due to the gales and severe gales.”
