THE world's media descended on the Macron Stadium this afternoon to greet new heavyweight boxing champion of the world Tyson Fury.

Fury defeated Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko on Saturday to secure the WBA, IBF and WBO belts in Germany and be crowned undisputed world champ.

The 27-year-old trains at the Macron Stadium in Horwich and returned to the arena for his first UK press conference where he was given a hero's welcome.

Entering the Bolton Whites Hotel, Fury - who opened his Team Fury gym in Halliwell Road last year - was mobbed by fans and photographers as he walked in and joked with supporters that he was 'still the same old G'.

The press conference was organised by his Bolton-based agent Asif Vali, who was seen celebrating with the six foot nine boxer in the ring in Dusseldorf.

Mr Vali lost his 15-year-old son Zak to cancer just nine weeks ago and said the likes of Tyson and his uncle and trainer Peter offered great support to the boxing-mad teenager during his illness.

He said: "The team used to take him to the gym and look after him and cheer him up.

"Peter used to come and visit Zak when he was in hospital and he was a great support to me.

"Tyson was in training at the time but he sent Zak some of the wraps he wore underneath his gloves, Zak was a big fan of his.

"I was thinking about him when I was in the ring with Tyson on Saturday after he won and I know Zak would have loved it, he would have been so proud.

"I was crying in the ring thinking about my son and knowing how much he would have enjoyed being there, it was an amazing night."
