STAFF at a Bolton nightclub are helping police investigating a huge gang fight that left a teenager with serious head injuries.

The 19-year-old was rushed to the intensive care unit at the Royal Bolton Hospital after the fight on Nelson Square around 5am on Saturday.

Now the owners of the nearby Level nightclub, formally known as J2, are working with police to find out who was involved in the brawl.

The square, which is a focal point for night goers, has a number of pubs and clubs including, The Blind Tiger, The Dragonfly, The Spinning Mule and recently revamped Level formerly known as J2. It is not clear which pubs and clubs the 19-year-old had been drinking in

Level club owner Sam Zegrour said he was doing all he could to help police with their investigation.

Mr Zegrour said: “We are working with the police to gather information as to what happened. The problem that we have is that it didn’t happen outside the club and happened in the square so we don’t have any CCTV footage. We don’t know the identity of any of those involved or if they were in the club on the night. But we will help police as much as we can."

It is understood that two other men were also treated for minor injuries following the large-scale fight.

Police and a forensics team were at the scene the following day and cordoned the area off.

A police spokesperson said: “Forensics attended the scene to carry out an investigation and inquiries are still ongoing.

“We are treating this as a very serious incident.”

Hannah Burtle, who lives in a basement flat at the Pack Horse across the road from where the incident happened said: “I heard screaming, shouting and arguing but didn't think twice. I thought it was the usual drunks arguing because unfortunately we hear it every week. I wish we had known as we could have prevented it at least a little.”

The condition of the 19-year-old is unknown as a spokesperson for Royal Bolton Hospital said they were unable to provide condition updates on patients.

Police have not revealed whether any arrests have been made.
