BOSSES at Bolton Lads and Girls Club hope a major new fundraising day to improve musical provision at the club will hit all the right notes.

The Spa Road based club's first Yellow and Blue fundraising day will be held on Friday, March 11.

The new initiative is intended to become an annual event which will feature its patrons and supporters coming together to support the club.

It is hoped that the day will raise £10,000 to buy instruments and equipment to develop its musical provision for young people at the club as well as its different sites across the borough.

Those taking part are being asked: "Whatever you do…make it yellow and blue", and to wear the club's yellow and royal blue colours on the day encourage donations.

Support for the project has already been pledged by club patrons including KBL Solicitors, recruitment agency Jobwise and Harry Peers Steelworks, who have said they will hold events such as bake sales and other sponsored events.

In addition a “spinathon” will be held on the day at the club, which will feature staff from Bolton based energy price comparison company Love Energy who will attempt to cycle a total of 1889 miles in a day, representing the year the club first opened in Bark Street.

Supporters unable to carry out fundraising in the workplace can get involved in a three towers challenge on Saturday, March 5.

The 19 and a half mile walking challenge starts at Rivington Tower, moving onto Darwen Tower before finishing at Peel Tower.

The walk is fully marshalled and can be completed by individuals or teams. Registration costs £10 per person and each individual or team is asked to raise sponsorship of £100.

Karen Edwards OBE, chief executive of the club, said, “This first BLGC Yellow and Blue day will be a great way to have fun and raise vital funds to help support the development of our music provision here at BLGC, helping young people achieve their personal best.

"We hope the Yellow and Blue Day will become one of Bolton’s biggest annual fundraising events as we all come together across the town to have fun and raise vital funds to support our future citizens."
