AN engineering firm in Bolton could close in June.

It is understood Webster Drives in Folds Road is due to close leaving more than 30 staff out of work.

The company, which was founded in 1878, specialises in design and manufacture of transmission components. It was taken over by Gardner Denver in 2004.

A former employee, who worked as a turner for more than 10 years, said more than 35 people are set to lose their jobs.

The man, who did not want to be named, said: "It is closing down. Employees have been on a 30-day consultation period and the first lot of employees are leaving this month.

"They are still in business at the moment but the last of the employees are leaving in June. We are all now looking for work."

A spokesman for Webster Drives said Gardner Denver was proposing the closure. A spokesman for Gardner Denver declined to comment.
