FOR lottery winner Brian Caswell, Bolton is certainly a lucky place to buy a ticket.

And now it's official — the BL postcode is one of the luckiest in the country and is said to be getting luckier.

To celebrate, Mr Caswell who scooped a record-breaking £25 million after winning the EuroMillions jackpot, was in the town centre with a "lucky sign" promoting it could be YOU next.

Mr Caswell, from Bolton, became the North West's biggest winner in 2009.

He said: "It is fantastic news to hear the BL postcode has made The National Lottery's rich list.

"Everyone thinks winning the lottery is something which happens to other people but I am proof that winning can happen to anyone.

"I really hope by unveiling this lucky sign in my home town that is leads to even more luck for the people living in the BL postcode and lots of new winners."

Accompanied by placards, Mr Caswell stood outside the town centre with the special plaque encouraging others to try their luck and with good grounds.

Six new millionaires have been made in the area in the last two year — and 32 since The National Lottery began — which say Camelot equate to 1.5 millionaires a year.

The BL postcode sits mid-table in relation to the number of millionaires, starting at 64 out of the 121 postcodes but has risen to 47th place in the last two years.

Local winners included Annette Dawson, who scooped £1 million luxury holiday to a private island on the EuroMillions Mega Friday draw in September last year.

Mr Caswell said: "Bolton is a lucky place for me and I have been lucky.

"It has done well for me from a health aspect."

"It is a great place to do the lottery — we have had six people in Bolton who have won.

"I still do the lottery, why not, you have to be in to win it and be in the right place at the right time."

He added: "Winning the lottery means you can do things which you never dreamt you would be able to do."

Mr Caswell said he had prepared for his retirement so winning the lottery was a bonus — and he only recently gave up his allotment "very reluctantly".

Andy Carter, senior winners' advisor for The National Lottery, the man who pays out the big winners, said: "The BL postcode is clearly very lucky — and it is getting even luckier.

"With an extremely lucrative few years under their lottery winner's belt, they now have even more reason to celebrate.

"There are now a massive 4,250 National Lottery millionaires across the country and with more than six new millionaires made every week there is likely to be a new winner made soon."

In Bolton the community has benefited with 131 grants worth £4,360,042 were distributed to National Lottery funded projects in the BL postcode area which have included Bolton Lads and Girls Club and Bolton Rugby Club.
