SPECIALIST archery equipment was stolen in a burglary.

Thieves struck at a home in the Crompton Way area on Thursday morning.

They took an SF Archery-brand recurve bow with an SF Archery riser, a black Avalon-brand bow bag and a quantity of Jazz-brand arrows.

The arrows all have a purple shaft and a small black sticker half way down the body with the victim’s name on.

Half feature one white and two red fletchings - the flights attached to the end of the arrow - and the other half one blue and two white fletchings.

It is not clear if the victim was a member of a local archery club.

John Hebb, treasurer of Bowmen of Overdale archery club, said: "It's a beginner's outfit. It's the cheapest material.

"The only people who would buy equipment would be a member of a club although you can shoot in a garden.

"The bow is probably worth £300 and the arrows £20 a set.

"The bag would probably cost £25 to £35."

He said the recurve bow has a wooden or metal handle in the middle and two limbs, one to the top and one to the bottom, connected to the string.

The archer creates the tension themself by pulling back and releasing the string themselves to fire the arrow.

Bolton's other archery club, the Deane Bowman, use the simpler  longer wooden longbows of the kind used by Robin Hood, Mr Hebb said.
