SHOCKING dashcam footage shows the moment a Mercedes crashed into a learner driver before fleeing from the scene of the collision – having only just passed a police car.

Abdul Majid and his 52-year-old learner driver were left shaken following the crash at the crossroads of Derby Street and College Way, opposite the McDonald’s in China Gardens.

Footage shows the black 4x4 approaching Mr Majid’s white Renault along Derby Street while a police car travels in the opposite direction.

At the traffic lights, the vehicle then attempts to turn left from the right hand lane while Mr Majid’s car is continuing ahead, causing a collision damaging his car.

“I was in shock. You never expect something like that to happen,” said Mr Majid.

“It’s my first collision as a driver.

“After the collision, we pulled over and I reassured my learner driver that she had done nothing wrong.

“The other car stopped briefly ahead, but when I was discussing what to do they sped off.”

The 33-year-old of Chorley New Road has been an instructor since August, 2015 and estimates damage to the car to be more than a thousand pounds – with it needing a new wishbone, panels, lights and an alloy wheel.

Despite submitting the dashcam footage to police, no-one has been arrested since the collision on April 24.

He added: “The state of my car was awful.

“There are some bad drivers out there. People need to be more considerate and drive respectfully.”

The Bolton News has approached Greater Manchester Police for a statement on the collision but has had no reply yet.
