THE people have spoken, Bolton and Britain have voted to leave the European Union.

The debate has been raging for months and now people are getting to grips with the result and what it might mean.

Here is a selection of just some of the comments left online in the wake of the Leave vote being announced.

Let's hope it works out for us, eh? Economy is crashing, no chance that we would trade with the EU without open European boarders, potentially more immigration from outside of the EU, loss of skilled labour, destruction of the NHS, Scotland leaving the UK, can't wait. You people got what you wanted!
Edward Lewis

Absolutely idiotic. Well done all the people who voted based on hatred! Pound at an all time low. Happy holidays!!! European Court of Human Rights no longer an option. The majority of people have no idea of what their vote really means long term. Worried and scared.
Sharon Eddleston

I don't get why people are labelling others for being 'stupid' or 'showing hatred' when the people of the U.K. have used THEIR vote? Also nobody knows what will happen so, unless you can predict the future, I wouldn't jump to conclusions. Other than, let's all be grown ups ok.
Martin 'Tino' Fowkes

Well done to the patriotic people of Bolton! Time for an all change.
Ross Lancaster

Who will you scapegoat next as the economy goes into free fall, public services get cut back, workers' rights reduced and you get poorer?
Mike Wakefield

Everyone jumping on the band wagon now hating those who voted leave haha! It's up to the individual how they vote so realise that just because you have an opinion on something doesn't mean everyone else should agree with you.
Dave Hinegan

Amazing news for our great nation, now we just have to show all those scared to go out the front door that we will not be in WW3, hit with a £30bn budget or exposed to ridiculous tariffs.
Chris Hutchinson

I voted remain. I hope to god I'm wrong in what I think leaving will do. It won't show for a year or two, so let's meet back in 2 years time yeah? If everything's all roses I will high five you and say you were right and I was wrong. If we are on our asses, will you apologise to me for destroying my life? Cos I have to lie in a bed which I haven't made! Hope it gets more comfy and doesn't become a bed of nails.

I am ashamed to say I was born in the North West. You do not realise what you have done...
Brenda Neadley

The people have spoken, now the MPs should take notice and work together.

Dear Bolton, you've felt the austerity of the right, now prepare for the far right. You've NOT seen what's coming sadly.

Julie Smith

We will be strong, am so happy with the result.
Simon Claridge

All this and it still won't make a blind bit of difference.

Well the £1 has dropped to its lowest in 31 years, that means price hikes.

Well done all of you who voted leave. Now pay for it while rich will rubbing their hands in glee.
