A MAN was treated for smoke inhalation by firefighters called to a kitchen blaze last night.
Crews were called to a flat in Mere Gardens, Halliwell, at 11.45pm.
A smoke detector in the flat raised the alarm.
They led the 28-year-old to safety.
He was given oxygen and checked over by paramedics.
The flat was heavily smoke-logged. Crews were on the scene for just over an hour and cleared the property of smoke.
Now fire officers are urging people to ensure they have a working smoke alarm, which the fire service may fit as part of the safe and well visits they do to improve safety in the home.
Watch Manager Tony McKenna said:”The smoke detector raised the alarm and we will be carrying out safe and well visits in the area.
“Anybody who wants a visit should ring 0800 815 555.”
