This week’s selection was quite a straightforward decision to make. An English IPA style beer from the outstanding Marble Brewery.
The Salford based brewer make a range of exceptional, quality beers. Their Lagonda ale is one of their very finest, in my opinion.
Lagonda (5%)has a most attractive golden presentation with a tight, white head. It has quite a complex aroma of juicy malt, floral, citrus and a hint of honey sweetness on the nose.
The flavours replicate what was mostly identified in the aroma: tart orange/lemon fruit, mild honey, malty sweetness and flowery notes, that balance to perfection on the palate. There was a hint spicy hop lurking too.
The drying finish lingers long in the mouth, with tangy, fruity hop bitterness and some subtle, spicy warmth.
Lagonda is a superb example on an English style IPA. A thirst-quenching, full-flavoured beverage to behold. A lip-smacking beer in exceptional condition. It was immensely enjoyed at the Swan with Two Necks, Pendleton, near Clitheroe.
