This week’s selection comes from o’er t’border, courtesy of the Acorn brewery in Barnsley. I’ve sampled a few of their ales in various pubs, and always found them most appealing on the palate.

Their Blonde pale ale was for me, a typical Blonde Ale style beer, having a rich golden appearance with a moderately tight, white head.

The beer had a pleasant aroma of bready malt, lemon fruit and a soft, floral note. More juicy, bready malt was identified in the flavour. The malt was quite dominant initially, and was followed by some citrus fruit, mild honey and a light, herbal note. A rather smooth mouthfeel balanced well with a moderately low, tangy hop bitterness.

The finish was quite complex, with bready malt, lemon fruit, soft honey and some light, spicy hop warmth, in the long and lingering semi-dry finish.

A very enjoyable Blonde Ale style beer. An easy drinking, quite refreshing ale. It certainly justified my nomination for beer of the week.
