Beer connoisseur and passionate pub campaigner, Mark gives us his decision on the tastiest beer he has sampled in the last seven days.
This week’s outstanding beer came courtesy of Derbyshire brewery, Pentrich. It was the first time I had sampled an ale from this small craft brewing operation.
Their Wish Fulfilment American style Pale Ale(4.8%) has a most attractive, hazy, golden presentation, from the hops that are added in the secondary fermentation of the brewing process. This in addition to a white, foamy collar.
The beer had a strong aroma of citrus fruit, mango and pineapple. The American hops were certainly doing their job.
There was an excellent bittersweet balance that followed in the flavour. Juicy grapefruit married well with mango and canned pineapples sweetness. I also identified some pine and a hint of peppery warmth.
Tangy citrus hops and some subtle, piney bitterness continue in the delightful and lingering, dry finish.
Fruity, refreshing and deep-flavoured excellence from the talented team at the Pentrich brewhouse. A beer in first-class condition at The Beer Engine micropub in Skipton.
