Beer connoisseur and passionate pub campaigner, Mark gives us his decision on the tastiest beer he has sampled in the last seven days.
This week’s favourite tasty tipple came courtesy of Ilkley brewery. They are one of the most popular and well respected breweries in Yorkshire - and have been quenching the thirsts of discerning ale drinkers with their traditional beers since 2009.
Their Simcoe single hop, American style pale ale was yet another quality beer off their production line, presenting itself yellow/golden in colour with a tIght, white head.
The beer had a complex aroma that included quite a strong piney note, in addition to grapefruit, peach and some passion fruit on the nose.
There was more grapefruit, peach, pine and floral flavours that filled the mouth. Juicy, crisp and refreshing with a trace of fruity sweetness, that balanced well with the notes from the Simcoe hop.
More citrus zest and pine lingered in the dry, tangy hop finish.
Another deep-flavoured, first-class, thirst-quenching ale from the talented Ilkley brewing team. A beer in exceptional condition and extremely enjoyed at the New Brew-m, Burnley.
