An investigation is underway after staff were threatened in a bank robbery last week.

The robbery is believed to have taken place last week on Wednesday June 28 at Lloyds Bank on Ellesmere Street in Leigh.

A man walked into the bank at around 3.50pm with a white bag with an “unknown item” inside, which he then pointed to in a threatening manner towards staff, demanding that they open the till.

Detective Sergeant Andy Partington, of GMP’s Criminal Investigations Department, said: “Staff were very shaken up at this.

“Thankfully, no-one suffered any injuries but the fear they faced by not knowing what was inside the bag has caused a lot of anxiety and stress.”

The man stole a small amount of cash before making off from the bank.

He was then seen running from Lloyds, turning right towards Leigh Bus Station and then running through the bus station onto King Street before going down an alley.

After going down the alley, he was then seen running from Cook Street up Youd Street.

Police have now appealed to the public to come forward with any information that may help them find the robber.

DS Partington said: “The male is described as white with tanned complexion, around 6ft tall, stocky build, wearing a dark grey tracksuit with the hood up, a black baseball cap underneath and had a dark face covering pulled up over his nose leaving his eyes on show.

“He wore black footwear with thick white rimmed soles.

“He was carrying a white/cream bag in his hand.

“We are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have seen the male in the lead up to the incident without his face covering.”
