The wonderful world of Barbie comes alive on the silver screen today and you maybe forgiven for thinking those who helped create it hail from La La land.

But Annabel Davies lives no where near Tinseltown, but actually resides a lot closer to home - living in Westhoughton.

Annabel is a talented clothes designer and has worked on huge blockbusters, creating costumes for everyone from Indiana Jones to Barbie herself.

Her credits include Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and Assassin's Creed.

The talented seamstress made costumes for some of the 'Kens' in the movie, including Ryan Gosling and Michael Cera, amongst others.

Annabel, who studied costume making at university in London splits her time between the capital and home.

She said: "I went to university in London to study costume making, from there I have worked on films.

"I have done quite a few things before, since Covid I did a few big ones. I did Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom which is yet to come out, the new Indiana Jones, and then Barbie.

"We did Barbie in February and April last year. I did a Tom Hanks film called Here, and I'm working on Deadpool 3 now.

"I did textiles through GCSE and A Levels, and since A-level I found out about making costumes for film and wanted to do it."

She continued: "It is a bit surreal, the publicity for this film has been crazy, it is everywhere in shops. The fact that some of the photos in British Vogue features stuff I have made, that is crazy.

"The first big film was Assassin's Creed and it snowballed from there, now I am part of a really good team and we go from job to job together."

Although she doesn't measure the actors herself, Annabel does catch the odd glimpse of an A-lister.

She said: "I do see them in around the studio. I got a wave from Michael Cera when working on Barbie."

Her partner, James Chapman, said: "I am super proud of her, it is great and it is just so crazy to me. You are walking around and seeing these billboards and the work she does around the world.

"She just treats it like a regular job, but when you are in the thick of it, it is easy to be wrapped up in it. But for me, I love telling people about it."

Barbie will be in cinemas from Friday, July 21.
