An extra police patrol was in place this week after reports of youths gathering at a historic industrial site where they could be at risk.
Police had received reports of the youths “congregating” at the Horwich Loco Works site off Chorley New Road.
Officers warned that the site could be dangerous and sent a police constable out to patrol the area on Monday night.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “Following reports from the community relating to juveniles congregating on the building site at Horwich Locomotive works, PC Stott has been on patrol tonight, visiting the Horwich Locomotive works.
“The site features a number of health risks, such as industrial machinery and moving vehicles.
“As the nights become a little lighter we urge you to speak to your children about the hazards of these areas, and help us reduce the risk to our community through education and engagement with those at risk.”
Horwich Loco Works had once been a thriving industrial and engineering site but has since been abandoned.
Anyone with any information or concerns can call police on 101 or 999 in the event of an emergency.
Alternatively, witnesses can contact independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
