The manager of a takeaway awarded a zero food hygiene rating says he is confident it will increase within weeks if not days saying an issue with the boiler caused the score to drop.

Clove Indian Takeaway, on Chorley New Road was given the minimum score of zero after an assessment on January 5, the Food Standards Agency's website shows.

The manager told The Bolton News the inspection happened after a problem developed with the boiler, but that has been resolved and the inspector is due to return.

Restaurant manager, Ahmed Tofayel, says the takeaway was awarded the zero rating due to an issue with its boiler which lead to the premises having no hot water.

The premises closed while the issues were resolved.

Ahmed, 32, said: “We had an issue with the hot water line inside the shop.

“It happened on Thursday night and the health inspector came in on Friday. With no hot water we’re not allowed to run the business and the inspector said the rating was going to go to zero, and that we need to rearrange the inspection and she will come down to see us.”

Ahmed confirmed that hot water was running once again at the takeaway and that the business was now open as usual.

He added that he expects Clove’s rating to improve following its next inspection, which he said should take place next week.

He said: “Easily we’ll get to three or four.

“We only had an issue with the hot water, it was bad luck obviously with that happening one night before.

“The inspector will come down to see us probably next week and we’ll go back to the normal rating.”
