A pub in Westhoughton has made the difficult decision to increase some of its prices to help keep the pub going.

Heather Caygill, who runs The Grey Man says that it is not something they wanted to do felt they had no choice but to  increase some prices slightly due to the rising energy costs.

Heather says that price increases have been kept to a minimum.

One of the drinks that has increased is Birra Moretti, but this has only increased by 5p.

Heather said: “There aren’t a lot of things that have gone up in price, it’s only a few.

“A lot of pubs are having to increase the prices to cover the bills such as the heating and electricity, and the water, and it all mounts up.

“Everything is going up in price, and they have to make sure they can keep the pub going, and they really do want to try and get customers in.”

Heather has organised a number of events to keep the pub at the heart of the community, including a pig and horse race, karaoke, bottle top bingo, raffling off a meat hamper, and much more, with free prizes sometimes available.

Heather said: “It seems to be working and customers are happy with the things we have put on.

“And we try to give something back to customers too.

“The company has been really good and really supported us in putting different things on.”

Heather says that they are only a small company, and that they are “trying their best” to “keep the pub going” for the community.

Heather added: “We want this to be a place where people go and have a chat and a laugh.

“The customers say it’s like a family and we are getting new customers in now.”

Heather’s children Sean and Paige, also help run the pub, whilst recruitment is carried out.

Heather has always been creative and when she was in her first management job, in between being a bar tender, she says she would go round with a paint brush trying to fix the place up.

The pub is also dog friendly, with a cosy fire and they also offer a range of sports channels including Sky Sports and BT Sport.
