Work on a "long awaited" health hub should be finished in a matter of months with a car park to follow soon after.

The new Horwich Health Hub has been a much-debated development on Church Street since it was first proposed in 2016.

Now documents put before Bolton Council say that building work on the hub should be finished by this summer, with the car park following suit by the end of the year.

Cllr David Grant, of Horwich South and Blackrod, said: “It really is important that this long-awaited health hub is completed on time.

“The other portion of the car park is for the leisure centre and the parking for the centre is just an absolute disaster.

“So the new car park, which we think we be for around 100 new places for the health hub portion really will be an important part of it.”

Plans for the new Horwich Health Hub were put forward to replace three existing practices in the town

Work on the new Church Street health hub started in August last year, with work on the car park set to finish after the hub is opened.

The finished hub will be made up of two GP surgeries with several diagnostics suits, a pharmacy and specialist clinics for mental health and physiotherapy.

Documents put before Bolton Council show that the authority had approved funding for £650,000 for the car park.

The space was considered alongside the town centre Central Street housing development.

The report recommended that Bolton Council waive its standing orders in both cases to developers Caddick to proceed with works.

The report said: “The car park at Horwich Health Hub, also designed by Highways, has approved funding of £650k.

“The council’s Highways section has taken forward Caddick’s design to ensure buildability.

“Upon completion, the car park design will be passed to Caddick to price up and as with the Central Street public realm work the final quoted price will be assessed against known and current market rate.

“The cost for the works at Horwich Health Hub will be met from corporately available capital receipts.”
