A murder investigation is underway after a man, 37, was found dead.

Police say an arrest has been made since the discovery at a flat in Barton Walk, New Bury.

Officers were initially called on Tuesday evening, to a concern for welfare call, where they found the body of the 37-year-old.

Today CSI were on the scene as the number of officers in the area increased.

A 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder but has since been released on bail. 

Police were today making door to door enquiries.

GMP's Professional Standards Directorate are also assessing this incident, due to previous police contact with the victim. 

Police say this was an isolated incident and that there is no wider threat. 

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police,  said: "At around 6pm on Tuesday, March 5, officers responded to a report of a concern for welfare at a property in Barton Walk, Bolton.

"Upon arrival, a man aged 37 was sadly found deceased. A 34-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder. He has since been released on bail.

"A scene remains in place while officers continue with their enquiries.

"Due to previous police contact with the victim, the incident is currently being assessed by GMP’s Professional Standards Directorate."

Detective Inspector Stuart Woodhead, from Greater Manchester Police’s Bolton district, said: “I want to firstly reassure the community that we believe this to be an isolated incident and that there is no wider threat to the community.

"We're keeping an open mind as we approach the investigation but are exploring all lines of enquiry.

One resident said: “This is the second time CSI have been there. 

”The police first came here on Tuesday evening.

“There were two police cars, one van, two CSI vans and an ambulance." 

The resident said she had heard there was a murder investigation taking place.

She added: "We have had overdoses and things like that. This is the worst thing that has happened around here." 

A police car could also be seen parked around the corner, on St James Street.
