A Bolton-based jazz band is celebrating winning an award for the sixth year in a row.

The Bolton based Managers Big Band have just returned from the Annual Great North Big Band Jazz Festival which took place on Saturday, March 2 in Chester-le-Street where after competing against ten other bands they picked up the award for Best Band for the sixth consecutive year.

The band were praised for the quality of their programme and exceptional playing.

Their lead trombone player, Jack Looman, came away with best Soloist award for his brilliant rendition of the popular song 'Emily' which was composed by Johnny Mandel.

After the awards were presented the Managers were invited to perform again and took to the stage to deliver another performance to a packed auditorium finishing with their signature tune ‘King of the Swingers’.

The Managers Big Band was formed in 2006 by twin brothers Ben and Jay Shepherd who play keyboard and trumpet respectively with Ben also acting as Musical Director.

During that time they have developed and grown into one of the best Jazz Orchestras in the North West attracting some of the best players within the region whilst remaining loyal to their Bolton roots.

There is an opportunity to come and listen to this award winning band at their next quarterly performance which will take place at their rehearsal and home venue, Bolton Ukrainian Social Club on Castle Street on Friday 12th April at 8:00 pm.
