A church is once again poised to make a significant impact in the community through its annual fundraising challenge.

Farnworth Baptist Church’s dedicated team at The Well are rallying support for the Farnworth and Kearsley Foodbank, a vital lifeline for many families in need.

The Well is a centre offering a range of services to people and families, from food banks to employability, debt support and study skills groups.

On Thursday, April 18, between 10.30am and 3pm, The Well will host an event where social action manager Mark Whittington and foodbank manager Kathryn Lamport will take on a marathon challenge on treadmills.

Farnworth Leisure Centre, a sponsor of The Well, has lent its encouragement and resources to ensure the success of the event.

Cath Harris, facility manager said: “Farnworth and Kearsley Foodbank does such important work supporting local people in need, so we are delighted to offer the use of our treadmills to the runners attempting this marathon fundraising challenge.

“If any of our gym members would like to run alongside the fundraisers, we have set aside a third treadmill so you can show your support during this long-distance challenge.”

Local supermarket Asda will also be supporting the fundraising challenge with community champion Caroline Worthington on hand with shopping lists for essential items needed by the food bank and a trolley to collect on-the-day donations.

Caroline said: “Asda Farnworth are proud to support our local foodbank during their treadmill marathon. We have joined them in trying to raise as much money and food as possible for the people in our local community who may be in need.

“We hope our customers support us and Farnworth and Kearsley Foodbank during this event. Good Luck Kathryn and team!”

Kathryn Lamport, foodbank manager said: “For me personally this is going to be a big challenge, but for many of the families we support they are facing much bigger challenges every single day.

“I am committed to completing the challenge and every item donated or pound given is truly appreciated.”
