Explosive scenes shot in Bolton will air on the BBC tonight as the second run of the hit crime drama Traces returns.

The series is set in Dundee, with the filming taking place in Bolton, with the key scene of the forensic drama shot on Corporation Street, where the road was transformed into the aftermath of a bomb explosion.

Emergency vehicles including fire engine, ambulance and police vehicles were on set as part of the shoot with police tape blocking off the area in 2021.

Laura Fraser, who plays Professor Sarah Gordon, and Michael Nardone, who stars as D.I. Neil McKinven, were on set wearing blue forensic suits.

The second series, which first aired on Alibi, begins four months after the dramatic events of the first season finale.

Emma is no longer a lab assistant, but training to be a forensic chemist at the Scottish Institute for Forensic Science and Anatomy (SIFA) in Dundee.

The trail for the murder of Marie is about to begin and Daniel and Emma have to appear in court.

As well as the trial, the SIFA team are also investigating a bombing at a church hall. Elsewhere, Neil and Sarah’s seemingly innocent flirtations seemed to have turned to love, but with both of them married, will the colleagues act on their feelings?
