Fado's opens in Bromley Cross offering a taste of Italy

Fado’s is a family business, located on Darwen Road, and produces all its food from scratch, including sauces, and breads.

Owner Dounia Ahkouk, 53, has been in the hospitality industry for more than 30 years, and she always had a passion for Italian cuisine after having her own eaterie in Milan where she grew up.

Dounia has used her expertise to help other Italian businesses in the past by sharing tips on how to create authentic Italian food.

Her daughter Abla Rouissi, 19, has taken on a management position at the restaurant whilst working as a teaching assistant.

She said: “I am just helping her out, but it’s really nice to see how appreciated her hard work is.

“We spent almost a year and a half making it perfect so we could open, so seeing her accomplish her goals is the best thing to me.

“We make everything from scratch, and quality means some things take time.

“We do our own prep in the morning and evenings too.”

The eaterie only opened two weeks ago and is already proving to be popular in the area.

Abla says that what they really want to do at the restaurant is share their Italian traditions that some may not have heard of.

She said: “The wall decorations have been made like a garden, so it’s like someone’s house when you walk in.

“We want people to feel at home when they are here, because our food and culture is our home.

“It’s really exciting because I get to share my culture with others.”

From the decorations inside to the colour of paint – everything has been handmade, including a table which was crafted by the family.

Abla said: “We wanted to create everything the way we wanted it to look.

“My mum is the mind and hands behind everything; I am just the face of it.

“This is her big project that she has planned for a while.”

There is also a coffee and dessert section inside the restaurant, with a seating area, and the option to takeaway if wanted.
