People are being given a  “life-changing” chance to live in a new flat rent-free for a year at a major new housing development by simply “spilling their favourite neighbourhood secrets".

The Farnworth Green scheme is one of the borough’s most high-profile projects in recent years and aims to replace the old precinct with new flats, shops and businesses.

Now the developers behind the scheme, Captial&Centric have unveiled a competition to live in a flat rent-free for a year.

Joint managing director John Moffat said: “It’s a pretty life-changing prize, not only giving the lucky winner the chance to move into one of our neighbourhoods but eliminating what’s most people’s biggest monthly bill for a whole year.

“Whether it helps someone save for a rainy day or tick some experiences off the bucket list, it’ll be a massive opportunity for the winner.”

The finished Farnworth Green development is set to include 85 one and two-bedroom flats with 12 family homes and more than 20,000 square feet of space for bars, cafes and independent shops.

The scheme also includes plans for a public square, a community hub and spaces for outdoor community events.

Winners will be able to choose a flat rent-free for a year at Farnworth Green or at Capital&Centric’s other developments at Weir Mill, Stockport or Goods Yard, Stoke-on-Trent.

Potential entrants will need to go to the company’s Instagram page @captialcentric and like the pinned competition post.

They will then need to tag their favourite independent coffee shops, bars, restaurants, delis or shops and follow the @capitalcentric account.

Sharing the story will earn them an extra entry.

The winner will be selected once a tagged trader moves into one of the sites.

Mr Moffat said: “We want the power of the people to help us find the most cherished indie businesses to move into our communities.

“Everyone has their favourite spot for a flat white, a go-to place for pizza, or a hidden gem bar where the vibes are unmatched.

“In return for people spilling their neighbourhood favourite secrets, we’re giving away an apartment totally rent free.”

The Farnworth Green development is expected to be completed this year.
