BOLTON Olympic Wrestling club member Craig Pilling picked up Wales' first wrestling medal of the Commonwealth Games after an 8-5 victory over two periods.
The 27-year-old was cheered on by members of the Wigan Road Club in the bronze-medal play-off against England's Omar Tafail in the 57kg category.
Pilling made up for the misery of missing out on a medal from his last Games appearance in Delhi in 2010.
He did not have it all his own way after going 1-0 down but battled back to take a 6-1 lead.
Tafail rallied to pick up a few points but Pilling used all of his experience to take the bronze medal.
Earlier in the day, he won in the first round beating Scotland's Ross McFarlane 9-0 before losing finalist Ebikewenimo Welson from Nigeria 10-0 in the last four.
Speaking before the competition to the Bolton News, Pilling was being spurred on by following in the footsteps of other Bolton Olympic Wrestling Club members who had tasted success at the Commonwealth Games.
