DOUGIE Freedman is likely to take Mark Davies out of the firing line against his old club Wolves tomorrow.

The midfielder has started the last two games against Rotherham United and Sheffield Wednesday at the Macron Stadium – his first competitive appearances since March.

But the Wanderers boss admitted some concern over his condition at the end of the game on Tuesday night, and could seek to start him on the bench at Molineux.

Medo Kamara, who replaced Davies as a substitute in the 3-2 win over Rotherham would be favourite to fill in.

“It wasn’t easy to select Mark in two straight games because of how long he’d been out but he’s got that ability to produce runs from the middle of the park,” he said. “I thought he did really well for us.

“I was really pleased with him getting 85 minutes even though he was really tired towards the end, so that’s something we have to bear in mind as we got forward now to the next game.”

Davies scored on his last visit to the Black Country, which finished in a 2-2 draw in October 2012.

It was the night that Crystal Palace – and not Wanderers – had announced that Freedman had taken up the vacant managerial position.

The new Whites boss was still in South London at that point, with Jimmy Phillips, Sammy Lee and Julian Darby taking the reins in a thrilling 90 minutes under the floodlights.

Benik Afobe also got on the scoresheet before Kevin Doyle gave Wolves the advantage with two goals in three minutes. Davies then snatched a point away from his boyhood club with a well-struck volley from the edge of the box.

The 26-year-old spent a decade with Wolves, switching through their academy system before moving to Wanderers in 2009 for £1million.

That transfer created some bad blood at the time, with then-Whites assistant, and former Wolves academy boss Chris Evans, questioned over his role in the move.

Davies was booed on his first return to Molineux in March 2012 after winning a penalty, eventually converted by Martin Petrov in a 3-2 win.
