FORMER Norwich City and Bury midfielder Simon Whaley has taken over as caretaker manager of Eagley after Alex Harvie stepped down on Saturday.

Whaley will be in looking to help the Dunscar side after they lost 3-0 away to Premier Division table-toppers Charnock Richard.

A goal down, their prospects were further dented when they were reduced to 10 men when Josh Bowman was sent off and the home side took full advantage.

Eagley currently lie second from bottom – three points above Longridge – and Whaley will be keen to propel the side up the table quickly.

Chairman Mike Buckley said: “I had a chat with Alex and there was a mutual agreement that it was time for him to step down.

“Simon has initially been installed as manager and we will look at him over the next couple of weeks to see how he gets on.

“It will be the decision of the club if he stays on.”

Elsewhere in Division One, it was a case of two points dropped for Turton as they drew 2-2 at home to Hurst Green.

They went ahead from a Kieran Sisson penalty after Dylan Winstanley was brought down in the box.

The visitors equalised in the second half before Tom Morgan restored their lead.

Turton continued to press but conceded a goal against the run of play and then suffered the agony of having a penalty appeal in the dying minutes waved away by the referee.

Tempest United produced a poor performance in going down 1-0 to Mill Hill St Peters.

Assistant manager Gary Westhead said: “We went close on a couple of occasions through Liam Stewart and Sean Rothwell and Matt Carter hit the post.

“It was a disappointing defeat to a poor side who I would have expected to beat with the good run we have been on.”

In the same division, Bolton County failed to capitalise on their dominance of Ambleside as they lost 1-0.

They did have the ball in the back of the net but it was ruled out for offside.

Ladybridge flew the flag for the local sides in Division Two with a 6-0 victory over Todmorden.

Dave Walker’s side were 3-0 up at the break with goals by Ross Ellison, Ant Hough and Gary Whiteside.

Sam Parkinson added to his tally for the season and then Matt Woods chipped in with a couple late on.

Walker said: “It was a comfortable victory.

“The scoreline should have been far bigger but the fact we are creating so many chances at the moment is really encouraging.”

Elsewhere, CMB beat Millom 4-1 with efforts by Charlie Scholes, Matt Carr (two) and Paul Hallows helping the Chew Moor side to a comfortable victory.

Danny Hill was on target as Stoneclough went down 2-1 to Leyland United.
