CHRIS Herd will be put back into the firing line at Fulham tonight.

The on-loan Aston Villa defender experienced some problems after playing his first club game in several months at Chelsea last week.

But Dougie Freedman says he will be part of the squad travelling to Craven Cottage.

“He had a few cramps after the game and then in training, so I didn’t want to risk him getting a major injury.

“We could have put him on the bench but I felt it was a case of all or nothing, and I chose nothing.”

Herd suffered an ankle injury on international duty with Australia that delayed his arrival at Wanderers.

And Freedman admits he will need to manage the 25-year-old carefully after playing just two games in just over 18 months.

“In midweek he had cramp below his calf so we didn’t want to risk him getting injured,” he said.

“Going Wednesday-Saturday-Wednesday-Saturday is asking too much from him at the moment.”
